Question: How do I install the TOPO! 4 Upgrade Kit on my PC?

Answer:

1. To verify that you have properly installed the software, I would recommend that you completely uninstall anything relating to TOPO! from the add/remove programs found in your control panel (please make back up copies of any maps that you have previously saved). When finished, please check your hard drive for any TOPO! folders (usually one is directly off the root and the other is found in the program files folder) and delete them. When complete, empty your recycle bin.

2. Load the TOPO! 4 Upgrade CD Kit (aka “TOPO! Streets and 3-D Views”) installation disc and run the set-up wizard.

The other two discs from TOPO! 4 Upgrade CD Kit (aka “TOPO! Streets and 3-D Views”) contain street and road data for all 50 states. If your state series was not current as far as the streets and roads are concerned, then during installation, you would have been prompted for either disc 2 or 3 depending on where the data resides on the disc for your particular state. If TOPO! did not prompt you to insert either disc 2 or 3, then your streets and roads are current and you will not need these two disks. Do not copy any of these discs to your hard drive.

3. From the menu bar in TOPO!, please click “View.” Then choose the “TOPO! Product Setup.” Select the radio button denoting that you “don’t have a serial number.”

Please insert a data disc (a state data disc 2 or higher) into your CD-ROM drive. Wait a few seconds and then select “Activate New Product.” After you insert a data disc into your CD-ROM drive, a window may appear displaying a folder. If so, simply close the window.

Select “OK” and TOPO! will now recognize your earlier state version of TOPO!.

4. Also, if you would like to copy the state data discs to your hard drive, please follow the instructions below:

- Open TOPO!
- Click View > TOPO! Product Setup > Copy Data CD-ROMs to Hard Drive
- You will be prompted to insert a TOPO! Data CD to copy, then click ‘OK’
Products: TOPO! State, Weekend Explorer, Backroads Explorer 3D, Backroads Explorer
Platforms: Windows Vista, Windows XP or earlier
