A detailed report about your computer’s operating system and hardware configuration can help diagnose problems. On a Windows PC, you can create a DirectX Diagnostic (DxDiag) report by following these steps: Type “dxdiag” (without the quotes) in the Windows (Start menu) > Run… (or Start Search) edit box, and press the Enter/Return key. Click the “Save All Information” button at the bottom of the DirectX Diagnostic window, and save the text file to your hard drive (somewhere easy to locate, such as on the Desktop). Click the ‘Browse…’ button on this bug report form and choose the text file created in step 2 to attach it. On a Mac, you can create a System Profile report by following these steps: Choose the “Apple > About This Mac” menu item. Click the “More Info…” button. Choose the “File > Save As” or “File > Export” menu item to save the text file to your hard drive. Click the ‘Browse…’ button on this bug report form and choose the text file created in step 3 to attach it.
Tracer Log	what's this hide this
A ‘tracer log’ is a text file that records detailed information about the operations that the National Geographic mapping software performs while it is running. This log can help technical support staff at NG Maps identify and resolve technical problems. On a Windows PC, you can create a Tracer Log by following these steps: Browse your computer’s hard drive (most likely the “C:\ Drive”). Locate and browse the “Program Files” folder. Locate and browse the “TOPO! Explorer” folder. NOTE: if you cannot locate this folder or the “Tracer.exe” application in step 4, just submit your bug report without a tracer log. Technical support staff will email you a “tracer.exe” application if a tracer log is required. Locate the application “Tracer.exe” and launch it by double-clicking. It will launch a blank white screen (this is normal). Next, launch TOPO! Explorer (or other mapping application) and perform the tasks that were creating a crash or issue. As soon as the crash/issue occurs, minimize TOPO! Explorer and return to the Tracer.exe application. The blank tracer screen will now be filled with text, which was recorded from the operations in your application. From the “File” menu in Tracer – choose “Save As”. Type in a file name (preferably your name) and add “.txt” to the end. For example “JohnDoe.txt”. Click the ‘Browse…’ button on this bug report form and choose the text file created in step 3 to attach it. On a Mac, you can create a Tracer Log by following these steps: Browse to your hard drive, Applications, Utilities folder and launch “Console”. Clear the Console screen if any content is currently displayed by choosing “Clear Display” icon at the top of the Console screen. Launch TOPO! Explorer (or other mapping application) and perform any tasks that lead to a crash or your issue. Once the crash has occurred, return to console – select all of the text displayed, copy, and paste into “Textedit”, and save the text file to your hard drive, using your name (such as “JohnDoe.txt”). Click the ‘Browse…’ button on this bug report form and choose the text file created in step 4 to attach it.
